Our Beginnings...
While we have been lifelong dog fanciers, our involvement in canine competition began in 1998, with the arrival of our Chinese Crested, Pekoe. We originally had no aspirations of getting involved in any particular activities, but it's amazing what a difference one little puppy and an introductory obedience class can make! Pekoe eventually led us to our Tollers, a breed for which we have become very passionate and devoted. We are proud members of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club (USA) and several other specialty and local clubs.
Our Vision...
Here at TollCrest, we aim for happy, healthy, versatile dogs and maintain high standards based on our dogs' natural talents and their pedigrees. We emphasize health and temperament while striving for sound dogs who can successfully participate in any chosen dog sport and thrive as loving family companions. There is no kennel here; our dogs live in the house and are cherished members of our family.
Our Future...
Puppies are available only on occasion, and we take great pride in quality over quantity. Breeding plans are made far in advance with emphasis on upholding the Toller standard and producing well-rounded dogs. Prior to breeding, our dogs have met stringent requirements, passing numerous health clearances and proving their abilities in a variety of competitive venues. If you are interested in a TollCrest puppy, please feel free to contact us for more detailed information.
Why we love what we do...
Our dogs are proudly owner trained and handled, and people often wonder why we're drawn to training and competing with our dogs. The following best describes why we love what we do, and can be applied to all our canine activities:

What is an Obedience Title, Really?
Not just a brag, not just a stepping stone to a higher title, not just an adjunct to competitive scores, a title is a tribute to the dog that bears it, a way to honor the dog, an ultimate memorial. It will remain, in record and in memory, for about as long as anything in this world can remain. Few humans will do as well or better in that regard.
And though the dog himself doesn't know or care that his achievements have been noted, a title says many things in the world of humans, where such things count.
A title says your dog was intelligent and adaptable and good-natured. It says that your dog loved you enough to do the things that please you, however crazy they may have sometimes seemed. And a title says that you loved your dog, that you loved to spend time with him because he was a good dog, that you believed in him enough to give him yet another chance when he failed, and that in the end, your faith was justified.
A title proves that your dog inspired you to that special relationship enjoyed by so few; that in a world of disposable creatures, this dog with a title was greatly loved and loved greatly in return.
And when that dear, short life is over, the title remains as a memorial of the finest kind, the best you can give to a deserving friend, volumes of praise in one small set of initials after the name.
An obedience title is nothing less than love and respect, given and received and permanently recorded.
